After a soccer game, a friend says, "I knew our team would win!" Maybe your friend really believes it. When we learn the result of something, we often feel that we knew it all along. This is called hindsight bias.
In one study, students guessed what would happen on a president's trip. After the trip, they remembered their guesses wrongly. They thought they had guessed the real events better.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. What did the students do before the president's trip?
students guessed what would happen on a president's trip とあるので A。
Q3. In this passage, "all along" means ...
knew it all along
Hindsight bias is the feeling that we "knew it all along" once we learn how something turned out. In a classic study, students estimated the chances of various events before US President Nixon visited China and the Soviet Union in 1972. After the trip, they were asked to recall their original estimates. For events that had actually happened, they tended to remember giving higher chances than they really had.
So knowing the result changed their memories. This bias can be harmful. It can make us judge other people's mistakes too harshly and trust our own predictions too much. One way to fight it is to write down your predictions before you know the outcome.

Q1. What did the classic study show?
knowing the result changed their memories とまとめられているので D。
Q2. For events that actually happened, how did students remember their estimates?
they tended to remember giving higher chances than they really had とあるので C。
Q3. Why might writing down predictions help?
Hindsight bias is the tendency, after learning an outcome, to believe that we could have foreseen it. In a well-known study published in 1975, students estimated the likelihood of various possible events before President Nixon's 1972 visits to China and the Soviet Union. When later asked to recall those estimates, they systematically remembered assigning higher probabilities to events that had in fact occurred.
Psychologists now distinguish three levels of the bias: distorted memory of one's earlier judgment, a sense that the outcome was inevitable, and a belief that it was foreseeable. The consequences can be serious. In medical or legal settings, people who know an outcome must evaluate decisions made by others who did not, and reasonable choices may be condemned as obvious errors.
A 2004 meta-analysis found that the effect is small to moderate in size, yet it appears consistently across many studies. Experts are not immune either. Fortunately, it can be reduced, though not eliminated. A 1988 experiment showed that asking specialists to list reasons why each possible diagnosis might be correct weakened the bias, since an outcome that has plausible alternatives no longer seems inevitable.

Q2. What did the 2004 meta-analysis conclude?
small to moderate in size, yet it appears consistently across many studies とあるので B。
Q3. Why did listing reasons for each possible diagnosis reduce the bias?
最終文 an outcome that has plausible alternatives no longer seems inevitable が理由。 正解は A。
