Sometimes a news story is corrected, but we still remember the wrong version. Scientists at Stanford University tested this. Students did a task, and then they got fake results. Some heard, 'You did well.' Others heard, 'You did badly.'
Later, the scientists told them clearly that the results were fake. But the students still believed what they had heard about themselves. Psychologists call this belief perseverance.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. What did the scientists tell the students later?
the scientists told them clearly that the results were fake とあるので C。
Q3. In this passage, "fake" means ...
fake news(フェイクニュース)でおなじみの語なので D。
Why do false ideas stay in our minds even after they are corrected? In a 1975 experiment at Stanford University, Ross and his colleagues asked students to tell real notes from fake ones. The researchers then gave each student random feedback, saying that they had done well or badly. Afterwards, they explained clearly that the feedback had been fake.
Even so, students who had been told they did well still rated their ability highly, and those told they did badly rated it low. In a later study, people who wrote their own explanation for a false idea held on to it even more strongly. Our own stories seem to survive after the evidence disappears.

Q1. What was the feedback in the 1975 experiment based on?
gave each student random feedback
Q2. What happened after the researchers explained that the feedback was fake?
Q3. According to the later study, what makes a false belief stronger?
people who wrote their own explanation for a false idea held on to it even more strongly とあるので A。
Belief perseverance refers to the tendency to maintain a belief even after the evidence on which it was based has been discredited. In a classic 1975 study, Ross, Lepper and Hubbard gave students false feedback, assigned at random, about their ability to distinguish genuine notes from fabricated ones. Even after a thorough debriefing revealed that the feedback had been decided in advance, participants continued to rate their ability in line with what they had been told, and observers watching the procedure showed the same bias.
In 1980, Anderson and colleagues extended this work: participants read two cases suggesting that either risk-taking or caution made firefighters successful, and some were asked to explain why. After learning that the cases were invented, many retained the initial theory, and those who had written explanations tended to cling to it most. A 2012 review confirmed that misinformation often continues to influence judgments after correction, partly because a simple denial leaves a gap that the original story fills. Encouragingly, in the 1975 study, explaining the perseverance process itself almost eliminated the false self-assessments. However, these classic experiments mainly involved university students, so their generality should not be overstated.
