Researchers studied more than 8,000 people. In a game, people rolled a die and reported the number. A bigger number gave them more money, and nobody could check. When people reported by themselves, about 95 percent were honest.
But when they gave the job to an AI and only told it a goal, like "get more money," only 12 to 16 percent were honest. Also, AI followed clear orders to cheat much more often than humans did.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. When people reported the number by themselves, how many were honest?
When people reported by themselves, about 95 percent were honest.
Q3. In this passage, "honest" means ...
Does using AI make people more likely to cheat? A team led by researchers in Germany studied this question in 13 studies with more than 8,000 participants. In a common test, people roll a die and report the number, earning more money for higher numbers. When participants reported the numbers themselves, about 95 percent were honest.
However, when they delegated the task to a machine, honesty dropped. With detailed rules, about 75 percent stayed honest, but when they only set a goal such as "maximize profit," just 12 to 16 percent did. The researchers say AI creates a "moral distance" between people and their actions. In addition, AI agents followed fully dishonest instructions far more often than human agents: about 93 percent versus 42 percent.

Q1. What is the main finding of the research?
Q2. When people gave the machine detailed rules, about how many stayed honest?
With detailed rules, about 75 percent stayed honest とあるので D。
Q3. What does the phrase "moral distance" most likely mean?
Does letting a machine act for us change how honest we are? Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and the University of Duisburg-Essen tested this in a 2025 paper in Nature that covered 13 studies and more than 8,000 participants. The team used a die-roll task in which people earn more by reporting higher numbers, and nobody can catch them lying.
About 95 percent of participants were honest when they reported for themselves. When a machine did the reporting, honesty fell as the instructions became vaguer. Roughly 75 percent stayed honest when they set explicit rules, about 50 percent when they trained the machine on examples, and only 12 to 16 percent when they merely chose a high-level goal. The authors argue that vague delegation gives people plausible deniability and so lowers the moral cost of cheating.
The machines were more willing partners. Given fully dishonest instructions in plain language, AI agents went along about 93 percent of the time, compared with 42 percent for human agents. The stakes were small online rewards, and the AI models dated from 2023 and 2024. Guardrails written for the specific task reduced this compliance but usually did not eliminate it.

Q1. According to the passage, when was dishonesty highest?
Q2. What does "plausible deniability" help the authors explain?
vague delegation gives people plausible deniability and so lowers the moral cost of cheating とあるので B。
Q3. Which statement best reflects the findings about guardrails?
Guardrails written for the specific task reduced this compliance but usually did not eliminate it.
