What did you do on this day three years ago? Most people cannot answer. But a few people can remember almost every day of their lives. If you tell them a date, they can say the day of the week and what they did. This is called HSAM.
But in a 2013 study, people with HSAM also made memory mistakes, just like other people. No one has a perfect memory.

これはHSAM(超記憶症候群)と呼ばれます。
Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. What can people with HSAM do when they hear a date?
they can say the day of the week and what they did とあるので D。
Q3. In this passage, "perfect" means ...
Around 2000, a memory researcher in California received an email from a woman who said she could not stop remembering every day of her life. When tested, she could give the day of the week and her own experiences for almost any date. Her case, reported in 2006, was the first of a condition now called HSAM.
People with HSAM do not use memory tricks, and on ordinary memory tests, such as learning word lists, they perform about as well as others. Their special skill seems to be not forgetting personal events. In 2013, however, researchers tested 20 people with HSAM and 38 others for false memories. People with HSAM were just as easily misled, and sometimes even more.

Q1. How did the first HSAM case come to the researcher's attention?
a memory researcher ... received an email from a woman とあるので A。
Q2. How do people with HSAM perform on ordinary memory tests?
on ordinary memory tests ... they perform about as well as others とあるので D。
Q3. What does the 2013 study suggest?
Around 2000, McGaugh, a memory researcher at the University of California, Irvine, received an email from a woman who complained that she could not stop remembering. Given a date, she could name the weekday and accurately describe what she had experienced, without using any mnemonic techniques. Hers was the first documented case of a condition now called highly superior autobiographical memory, or HSAM. Most of us cannot recall what we did on a given day three years ago, but people with HSAM can do this for almost every day of their lives.
So few of them exist that every study has had to work with very small groups. A 2012 study of eleven individuals found that they excelled at recalling dated public and personal events but scored normally on standard laboratory memory tests.
Later work pointed to retention as their advantage. After one week they recalled as much as controls, but after one year and after ten years the gap widened. In 2013, Loftus and colleagues compared 20 HSAM individuals with 38 matched controls on false-memory tasks. The HSAM group was just as easily misled, and even more so after exposure to misleading information. Their memories, too, are reconstructed.
