When we make a mistake in front of other people, our face often turns red. This happens because small blood vessels in the face get wider, and more blood flows in.
Charles Darwin called blushing the most human of all expressions. Some studies show that people who blush after a mistake are judged more kindly. Other people may trust them more. A blush may be a silent way to say sorry.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. Why does the face turn red?
small blood vessels in the face get wider, and more blood flows in とあるので D。
Q3. In the passage, "trust" means ...
When people feel embarrassed, the small blood vessels in their cheeks, ears and neck widen, so more blood flows in and the skin turns red. Charles Darwin was very interested in blushing and called it the most human of expressions. He noticed that people blush when they think about how others see them.
Modern experiments support the idea that blushing has a social purpose. In a 2011 study, 196 people played a computer game. After a partner behaved unfairly, participants who saw a blushing face trusted that partner with more money. A blush is hard to control, so it may work as an honest sign that someone feels sorry.

Q1. What is the main idea of the passage?
Q2. What happened in the 2011 study?
participants who saw a blushing face trusted that partner with more money とあるので C。
Q3. Why might a blush be believed more than words?
people cannot easily control a blush
Darwin called blushing the most human of all expressions. He noticed that even people born blind blush, and he tied the reaction to our awareness of how others see us. Physically, blood vessels in the skin of the cheeks, ears and neck widen, and more blood flows through them.
The sympathetic nervous system appears to be involved. In a 1997 experiment, blocking certain receptors in a small patch of forehead skin weakened the blush response. But people who called themselves frequent blushers did not show stronger vascular responses. What set them apart was how self-conscious they were.
Dutch psychologists have argued that a blush serves a social purpose. In their experiments, participants judged wrongdoers more kindly when photographs showed them blushing. In a 2011 trust game with 196 players, those who saw a partner blush after a betrayal trusted that partner with more money.
Since a blush is hard to fake, it may work as an apology people believe. These studies used photographs, though, and real encounters may play out differently. A 2024 brain-imaging study of 40 young people also found that blushing involved areas linked to emotional arousal more than areas used for thinking about other people's minds.
