Is more homework always better? Researchers in Spain studied about 7,700 junior high school students. Homework was helpful, but more time did not always mean better grades. About one hour a day was linked to the best results.
The most important thing was doing homework on your own, without copying answers. Also, students who need many hours are sometimes struggling. So ask yourself, "How much did I solve by myself?"

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. How much homework a day was linked to the best results?
About one hour a day was linked to the best results.
Q3. In this passage, "struggling" means ...
How much homework is the right amount? Students and teachers often disagree. A large review of American studies found that homework is linked to better grades, especially in junior high and high school. A study from Spain looked more closely.
Researchers checked the math and science results of about 7,700 students with an average age of 13.8. After taking family background and past grades into account, they found that two things mattered most.
One was doing homework on their own, and the other was getting homework regularly from teachers. Both were more important than the time spent. Around one hour a day was linked to the best results. The strongest predictor of grades, though, was how well students had done before, so homework by itself does not change everything.

Q1. What did the Spanish study mainly show?
Both were more important than the time spent とあるので C。
Q2. How many students were in the Spanish study?
Q3. What can we infer from the last sentence?
最も強い予測因子はそれまでの成績で、homework by itself does not change everything と述べている。
Arguments about homework often mix up two questions, whether it helps at all and whether more is better. A synthesis of American research by Cooper and colleagues answered the first with a qualified yes. Despite weaknesses in study design, homework was positively associated with achievement, and more strongly in secondary school than in primary school. A Spanish study of roughly 7,700 adolescents went further.
After controlling for gender, family background and prior achievement, the researchers found that two things predicted math and science scores better than time or effort did. One was how independently students completed their homework, and the other was how often teachers assigned it. About one hour a day went with the best outcomes, although these are correlations, and no experiment has shown that one hour is the best dose for every student.
Longer hours may not help for a simple reason. The students who spend the most time on homework are often the ones who are struggling, so time can reflect difficulty more than diligence. A survey of high-achieving American schools also linked heavy homework loads to stress and physical health problems.
