Many people watch short videos on apps like TikTok. Researchers in Australia put together 71 studies with about 98,000 people. People who watched more short videos tended to have poorer attention. They also found it harder to stop themselves from doing what they wanted. They felt more stress, too.
But we do not know if the videos cause these problems. Maybe people who cannot focus like short videos more.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. How many studies did the researchers put together?
Q3. In this passage, "focus" means ...
Short-form videos on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are extremely popular, but some people worry that they harm our ability to concentrate. In 2025, researchers at Griffith University in Australia combined the results of 71 studies involving about 98,000 people. They found that heavier use of short videos was linked to weaker attention and inhibitory control, which is the ability to resist impulses.
Heavy users also tended to report more stress and anxiety. Body image and self-esteem showed no clear link. However, most of the studies looked at people at only one point in time. So it is not clear whether the videos weaken attention or whether people with weak attention simply prefer short videos.

Q1. According to the passage, what is inhibitory control?
inhibitory control, which is the ability to resist impulses と説明されているので C。
Q2. Which of the following was NOT clearly linked to short video use?
Body image and self-esteem showed no clear link とあるので A。
Q3. Why is it unclear whether the videos cause weaker attention?
most of the studies looked at people at only one point in time
Seventy-one studies, with 98,299 participants in total, went into a 2025 meta-analysis in Psychological Bulletin led by researchers at Griffith University in Australia. The aim was to see how short-form video relates to the mind. Heavier use of TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and similar platforms was moderately associated with poorer cognitive functioning.
The link was clearest for attention and for inhibitory control, the capacity to hold back impulses. Heavy use was also tied, more weakly, to higher stress and anxiety. These patterns looked broadly similar across age groups and platforms. One popular worry found little support.
There was no clear association with body image or self-esteem, possibly because users see an enormous variety of creators and content. Most of the included studies were cross-sectional and relied on people's own estimates of their usage. That leaves the direction of the link open.
Short videos might damage attention, or people who already find it hard to concentrate might be drawn to them. Longitudinal studies, which follow the same people over time, and experiments would help settle the question. Memory and reasoning have barely been studied so far.

The link was clearest for attention and for inhibitory control とあるので B。
Q2. According to the passage, why might there be no clear link with body image?
possibly because users see an enormous variety of creators and content とあるので C。
Q3. What does the author suggest about future research?
Longitudinal studies, which follow the same people over time, and experiments would help settle the question.(因果の向きの問いの決着に役立つ)とあるので A。
