Do you feel sad on Mondays? Many people call this "Blue Monday." But a large survey of about 340,000 Americans found something surprising. People felt better on weekends and Fridays.
However, Monday was almost the same as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Another study showed that Mondays feel worse when we remember them later. So Monday may not be as bad as we think!

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. When did people feel better in the survey?
People felt better on weekends and Fridays.

Monday has a bad name. It is often called the worst day of the week, but research does not strongly support this idea. In 2012, researchers analyzed telephone survey data from about 340,000 Americans who described their feelings on the previous day. Mood was clearly better on weekends and Fridays, but Mondays were only slightly worse than Tuesdays to Thursdays.
Retired and older people showed smaller differences between days. This points to a link between weekly mood patterns and work or school. A 2011 analysis of 34 samples found that Monday blues were much larger when people looked back on their week than when they reported their mood in the moment. So our memories may make Mondays seem worse than they really are.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
冒頭の research does not strongly support this idea が主旨で、2つの研究を根拠に示しているので C。
Q2. Who showed smaller differences in mood between days?
Retired and older people showed smaller differences between days とあるので B。
Q3. What can we infer from the 2011 analysis?
D。C は逆。
Gallup's pollsters phoned about 340,000 Americans and asked how they had felt the previous day, rating emotions such as happiness, enjoyment, worry and sadness. When researchers analyzed those answers in 2012, a clear weekend effect emerged, and Fridays were brighter too. Mondays, though, were only marginally worse than Tuesdays through Thursdays. The gaps between days were smaller among older and retired respondents, which points to work and school schedules as a likely driver of weekly mood cycles.
One weakness is that people were recalling yesterday instead of reporting in real time, so memory errors could have crept in. Memory may also explain why "Blue Monday" feels so true. A 2011 meta-analysis of 34 samples found that Monday blues were small but detectable when mood was rated in the moment, and considerably larger when people rated it looking back, especially university students. Expectations may inflate the effect in the same way.
Why are weekends better at all? A 2010 study of working adults credited much of the weekend boost to greater autonomy and closer contact with other people. Monday morning tiredness may also come from "social jetlag," the mismatch between weekday and weekend sleep schedules.

credited much of the weekend boost to greater autonomy and closer contact with other people とあるので C。
