Do children who eat breakfast get better grades? A review of 36 studies found that they often do. Breakfast also helped children focus in class.
But there may be other reasons. Families who eat breakfast every day may also sleep well and have regular daily habits. These things can help grades too. So we cannot say that breakfast alone raises grades. A simple breakfast is still a good start to the day.

In Japan's national achievement survey, students who eat breakfast every day tend to score higher. But does breakfast really raise grades? In 2013, researchers at the University of Leeds reviewed 36 studies on breakfast, classroom behavior and school performance. They found that breakfast generally helped children stay on task in class, and that children who ate breakfast more often usually had better grades.
However, they warned that part of this link could be explained by other factors, such as family income. In Wales, a study of about 3,000 children aged 9 to 11 found that those who ate breakfast had about twice the odds of getting good test results. Healthy foods like fruit and dairy showed a positive link.

Q1. What did the 2013 review find about breakfast?
breakfast generally helped children stay on task in class, and ... had better grades とあるので B。
Q2. In the Welsh study, how high were the odds of good results for breakfast eaters?
about twice the odds of getting good test results とあるので D。
Q3. Why did the researchers give a warning?
part of this link could be explained by other factors, such as family income とあるので A。
In Japan's national surveys, children who eat breakfast every day answer more test questions correctly, year after year. Whether the meal itself is responsible is harder to say. In 2013, Adolphus and colleagues at the University of Leeds reviewed 36 studies published between 1950 and 2013. Children who had breakfast generally stayed more on task in class, and regular breakfast eaters consistently did better academically. School breakfast programs helped most clearly with mathematics among undernourished children.
But the reviewers warned that weak study designs and confounders such as socioeconomic status could explain part of these links. A 2016 study looked at about 3,000 children aged 9 to 11 in Wales. Those who ate breakfast had roughly twice the odds of doing well on national tests six to eighteen months later, even after the researchers adjusted for sex and family poverty.
Breakfast-eating families may also sleep longer and keep steadier routines, though, and few randomized trials have tracked children's grades over many months. The type of food made a difference too. Among the Welsh children, fruit and dairy went with better results, while sweets and crisps showed no connection at all.
