Babies know their mother's smell. But what about their father's smell? Scientists in Israel studied 55 babies and their fathers. Each father wore a T-shirt for two nights.
Later, a baby played with a man they did not know. When the father's T-shirt was near the baby, the brains of the baby and the man worked together more closely. The father's smell seemed to help the baby.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
But what about their father's smell?
Q2. How long did each father wear the T-shirt?
Each father wore a T-shirt for two nights.
Q3. In this passage, "a man they did not know" is ...
「知らない男性」= stranger(見知らぬ人)なので A。
Most research on babies and smell has focused on mothers, but a new study looked at fathers. Researchers at Reichman University in Israel recorded the brain waves of babies aged five to twelve months and of adults at the same time while they played together. Before the experiment, each father slept in the same T-shirt for two nights without using soap or deodorant. Babies' brain rhythms matched their fathers' more than a stranger's.
However, when the father's T-shirt was placed nearby, the match between the baby and an unfamiliar man became stronger. The babies also showed more positive excitement. The researchers think that the father's smell helps babies feel that he is present, even when he is not in the room.

Q1. What was new about this study?
Most research ... has focused on mothers, but a new study looked at fathers. から C。
Q2. What were the fathers asked not to do?
slept in the same T-shirt for two nights without using soap or deodorant とあるので A。
Q3. What do the researchers suggest?
最終文 the father's smell helps babies feel that he is present, even when he is not in the room を言い換えた B が正解。
A mother's body odor is known to influence infants, yet a father's had never been tested. A study published in Science Advances by researchers at Reichman University in Israel examined fathers instead. Fifty-five fathers and their infants, aged five to twelve months, took part.
Using a technique called hyperscanning, the team recorded EEG from an infant and an adult simultaneously during free play and measured interbrain synchrony, the degree to which their neural rhythms align. Infants synchronized more with their fathers than with an unfamiliar man, but when a T-shirt that the father had slept in for two nights was nearby, synchrony with the stranger increased, and infants showed more positive arousal.
The authors propose that a father's scent lets infants sense his presence. The findings should be interpreted carefully, however. The control condition used an unworn T-shirt, so it is unclear whether the effect is specific to the father's odor or applies to human body odor in general. The main analysis also involved only about forty infants from a single site in Israel.
