Step in for (phrasal verb) – To temporarily do someone else’s work or duties, especially when they are absent or unable to do them.
⇒代わりに入る – 特に他の人が不在であるか、それを行うことができないときに、一時的に他の人の仕事や職務を行うこと。
Step in for の語源は、文字通り「ステップイン」すなわち「一歩踏み出す」という意味の「step」に由来し、「for」は「〜のために」という意味を持ちます。つまり、誰かのために一歩踏み出して、その人の役割や責任を一時的に引き受けるというニュアンスがあります。
